Yeah, the "story" is not very clever or well-written. But really, your one or two year old probably won't pay attention to the story, instead turning the page quickly to see the next picture. Your toddler will probably point at the pictures of Barney and Santa and the gaudy foil stars & tree ornaments. Your toddler will probably not worry about the meter and poetry. It's a nice, cheap little book to entertain your young toddler, not win literary awards. It's a book best for those under two years old as I think an older child would get bored.
