My mission for writing this book is to raise awareness and funds that alleviate suffering while we work on a long-term solution. By telling the world about the plight of these invisible dogs I've come to love and cry for, I feel good about any small part I've played in helping save them. I write our stories and hope to show that we are genuine, not corrupt or greedy, and to show that the struggles and triumphs of rescue are grueling, rewarding but worth it. If we are to help the forgotten dogs we must also help the forgotten people. I don't see tribes, colors, cultures, outsiders, insiders, purples, yellows or greens. I see humans and animals suffering every day and feel a responsibility to get involved. I don't dwell on whose problem it is to fix it or who caused it, or that they are not my problem because I don't live there. I don't live by the notion that this is a reservation issue, nor do I place blame on the politicians or the state,or the tribe or anyone else. When I ask myself whose fault is it that so many animals are suffering and so many people have no good options to help them? I can only come up with one answer that is the cause as much as it is the only solution.You and me.Yours and mine.Us.We. Humankind.

Rescue Matters - not just a book title but two words that have a deep and emotional meaning. Once you read this book I hope you will agree with me.C.J. English is a true inspiration. All that know me, know that I love her previous work, but her passion and dedication to this cause has made me love and admire her even more (if that’s possible)She has opened my eyes to a crisis I was completely oblivious to. And if you think that this crisis is isolated to just North Dakota, like I was initially, you would be very wrong. Whilst on holidays earlier this year I witnessed a similar situation in a place that is circa 14,000km’s from North Dakota and I truly believe that I would not have seen the situation for what it was if i hadn’t been aware of TMAR from my conversations with Ms English.This is not fiction but a true life story of how TMAR came into existence. It’s not sugar coated but a real depiction of the hard road these wonderful volunteers, rescuers, and man best friend have endured for the last 4 years.I can’t say it any better than Ms English herself ‘Rescue Matters is the story of how a garage rescue grew from nothing to inspiring a nation and sparking a rescue revolution. 4 years. 4 thousand dogs. 1 unlikely hero.’As I was reading these stories I was moved to tears and messaged Ms English to express how in awe I was of the brave, strong and selfless people in this book - and that I wanted to donate every last cent I had in my bank account to support them and the fantastic work they do.So yes this book will rip your heart out but there are beautiful heart warming and good outcomes as well. This book will grab you from the first chapter to the last it will take you along on a journey. You will have all the good feels and the heartache that goes along with a rescue starting from the ground up by one guy. Grab your Kleenex and a cozy blanket and settle into Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue and their story. I received an advanced copy for review by CJ. I work with this rescue. I work with this rescue because I wanted to help save dogs. I read this book because, honestly, she gave it to me. I couldn't put it down. I read it in 1 day. Less than 24 hours. This is a TRUE story. I know all people involved. I repeat, this is a true story. I promise you. All events have happened. I have been a part of some of these events. I still read them and I think, "wow". "Wow" because it's true. "Wow" because people are amazing. "Wow" because I GET to be part of this story, that has just begun. "Wow" because of all the good there is in the world. "Wow" because of the different perspective I have been exposed to. Rescue Matters on so MANY levels. We do save dogs, but we also forge to make a difference in the world as a whole. And THAT is what really makes me say "wow".
An well written , informative account of the selfless act of dog rescue. Many amazing stories drawn from the countless efforts of the Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue group led by ex-law enforcer Keith Benning. Starting on his own and adding volunteers , Benning is a hard working visionary , starting a meager “ ground level†rescue operation out of his own resources and work ethic and turning it into something much larger and effective. I feel like by reaching the end of the book , after gathering many helpers and dedicated partners , his work today is still without rest. He has tapped into a need that is huge and I was amazed at the scope of the problem of dog neglect. Author C.J. English does a great job depicting the real life events here and sheds great light on the problem as well as the solution. A very inspiring read for anyone who loves animals whether a little or a lot. Highly recommended reading.

He saw a need, a calling and acted on it. I loved this book! It is heart-wrenching and heart-warming. I have seen the stories on Facebook of the hundreds of dogs Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue saves, reading the stories again really tugs at the heart strings! This book is a great read, and gives you a no BS look at the hard work that goes into this rescue. My honest review ... I LOVED it! Page 27 was the first of many times I made notations. Yes some parts were hard because my love for rescue dogs runs deep … BUT … it also inspired me to truly believe in the power of what one person can do. Keith is a rockstar rescuer and the number of dogs he has personally touched in his mission to rescue is PHENOMENAL!!!
