I have very little experience with programming, and am only just getting interested in cryptocurrency, so I was somewhat nervous that this book would be too in depth, and too complicated for me to understand. Thankfully I was wrong. This book gives a great explanation as to how bitcoin works, which is something that is limited with other methods of learning about bitcoin. For most sources I read about bitcoin, they would only briefly cover the technical, leaving it ambiguous, as if transactions are just magic, and that we just accept that these happen. This book really shows how a transaction works, how blockchain works, and why we need it--along with a history and and thorough introduction of bitcoin that could explain it to someone that knows nothing of distributed ledger technology.I would suggest this book for anyone technically minded that wants to take the deep dive into understanding blockchain technology.

Deep complex book for programmers. Do not buy if you are looking for an introduction. Mostly about programming and crypto programming. Buy only if you know python and C++.

Fantastic book if you want to learn what Bitcoin is and how it works. But when I say "learn", I mean LEARN it from technical perspective. It is very technical book, but so far - the best book on the market. Recommended!

This is definitely a book for people who already have a programming or computer science background. I very much recommend this book as an entry point into working with Bitcoin.It is starting to get a little outdated in as much as there have been a few advances with Bitcoin that this book either mentions only briefly or doesn't include. Segregated Witness is mentioned in an appendix, and Bech32 isn't mentioned at all. The 2nd edition was published in July 2017, so it's only about a year out of date currently. Also, explanations of the new technology can be found online in various places, and you still need the understanding of Bitcoin that the rest of the book provides.

I am not a bitcoin enthusiast or a bitcoin miner. I do not recommend bitcoin as an investor or speculator. However, I did want to have a clear understanding of bitcoin and the blockchain. As usual, O’Reilly delivers a solid and informative book. I have relied on O’Reilly for almost 20 years and this book does not disappoint. He author does a solid job of describing bitcoin and its associated technologies. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand bitcoin technology.

One of the best technical books about blockchain technology I have ever come across. Aimed at programmers or technical enthusiasts so definitely requires a bit of background-knowledge, but gives a very in-depth overview of many aspects of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Being a developer myself, I always favor books that have simple, straight to the point code examples. The hashing examples alone are a great source of for a developer to use in practicle applications, escpecially if one is trying to create block chain applications for a specific industry. Thanks for the deep read on this subject. I can't wait to see where the blockchain will be a few years from now.

I have read a lot of books on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and the quality of this one simply blows all the others out of the water. This is a very murky area informationally, and I was frankly shocked at just how good this book is. If you're familiar with other O'Reilly Press programming books, it might be less surprising that this is exceedingly well-written, extremely useful, and incredibly enlightening, but still I was taken aback at the depth and quality of this book. (I've said it already, but it bears repeating that cryptocurrency books vary widely in quality and frequently toe the line of marketing rather than informing.) In any event, kudos to Andreas and his editors and I have already preordered (and breathlessly await) his forthcoming Ethereum book.One final note: this book is a great resource not just for programming, but simply understanding, Bitcoin. Much of it is reasonably complex and requires programming background, but the book does not require you to actually be plugging code into a command line to appreciate the insights and explanations.

The DC Comics maxi series 52 as a whole is very interesting as a stage for DC Comics' second bananas to perform instead of the usual DC Comics' trinity of Superman,Batman and Wonder Woman being showcased.Geoff Johns really shows his love for all the characters at DC from the the headliners to the really obscure, however as the title suggests this is a opening shot of ( spoiler alert) bringing back the company's multiverse which died a well deserved death in Crisis , but too many characters do make for a very confusing story to follow,but it is a like a Hail Mary Pass in comics which could have been done with less issues,but it does set-up the new Booster Gold series coming out later which is better than the last Booster Gold series.If you are a Geoff Johns fan then this series is for you,but if you are into DC Comics' second bananas proving that they got the " right stuff" then this series is for you.

"52" is a DC event comprising weekly issues released over a year, In the wake of the Infinite Crisis, the trinity of the DC Universe - Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman - are at least temporarily missing/ retired, but life carries on nonetheless. All the major titles underwent reboots or in general skipped a year in 2006/ 07 under the "One Year Later" brand, while 52 filled in the missing year.The first thing that impresses about this first quarter of the event is how ambitious the scale of the project is. The plot is multi-threaded (I counted 7 or 8 threads) and rather intricate. So far, the writers have only hinted at where this is headed, and I'm loving the allusions and hints.The second, is just how interesting the team of writers and artists can make these so called "second stringers". Elongated Man is fast becoming one of my favorite "tortured soul" characters. He was one of the highlights of Identity Crisis, and his plot-line in this story is a direct sequel. I also greatly enjoyed the introduction of two new female characters - Batwoman (yes, yes, a lesbian to boot), and Isis. Black Adam remains intriguing as ever. Booster Gold is a fun read, and some moments with a de-powered Clark Kent really impressed. In general, there are a lot of character moments in here that fans will appreciate.Finally, there's the artwork, which is very pleasing indeed. This is proper, contemporary comic book art and the team outdoes itself on several panels. If I had to compare it with another line, I think it is comparable to Marvel's Ultimate U line, and I mean that in the best way possible.I will say this, however: this is not a series for newcomers to the DC Universe - it is clearly written for the fans, those who care about the wider continuity and for minor characters. I'm finding it necessary to recall details (Wiki helps) from all the different crises, and other events like Green Lantern: Rebirth, all of which I've read in recent weeks fortunately. I'm sure there's a wealth of detail I'm missing too, since I haven't read every. single. DC comic that has come out pre-52.While I'd been skeptical of the series, I have no hesitation in committing to reading the remaining 3 volumes/ 39 issues. Onwards to week 14!

It seems that DC and Marvel have decided that `major events' should happen on a continuous rather than occasional basis thus `Countdown to Crisis' begat `Infinite Crisis' which begat `52' which begat `Countdown' which begat who knows what. Essentially 52 is just a bridge between Infinite Crisis and whatever follows Countdown. It's all becoming very confusing... or exciting... depending on your perspective. The series is somewhat groundbreaking in that it ran every week for exactly one year hence the name 52. Packing 13 issues into one book isn't really the way it was intended to be read. It was meant to be episodic but so be it. The series consists of multiple threads that develop, swerve and occasionally collide.The storylines revolve around lower level DC characters like Booster Gold, Ralph Dibny (Elongated Man) and The Question with occasional appearances by bigger stars. The pacing is fairly well done although I often found myself wishing they would favor some storylines (e.g. Booster Gold) over others that tend to drag (Black Adam). In some cases a storyline will simply be ignored for several issues. The art is good but not really spectacular. What really drives the series forward is the anticipation of where each storyline will lead. Is Mr. Mind trying to recreate the Monster Society of Evil? Has Booster Gold broken the universes timeline? Will Ralph Dibny really resurrect his wife Sue and what the heck is Luthor plotting?Alright, I'm hooked. Unfortunately I have to wait more than a month for the next installment. In my opinion 52 pales in comparison to Infinite Crisis although that could change as things progress. It's also inferior to many of the Countdown to Crisis storylines but it's still pretty darn good. Since I don't know how the series ends the jury is still out for me on whether or not it's a success because a few lousy endings will kill it. Its success or failure is all dependent on how they resolve the stories. Here's hoping for the best.

Only 40 of the book's 126 pages cover snorkeling sites, and the site reviews are usually half a page or less. Access information is sketchy and incomplete, which is too bad since the most important part of snorkeling the big island is knowing how to get to the sites, which are often poorly marked. One map shows the Mauna Lani Bay resort located adjacent to a famous bay and beach (Anaeho'omalu Bay), when it is actually miles to the north. Also, the authors continually refer to the Ritz Carlton Mauna Lani, when it has been called the Orchid at Mauna Lani for years. Only 22 sites are listed, although the jacket claims 26, which is still a superficial look at the many snorkeling sites. The rest of the "book" is basically a primer for snorkeling generally. This was purchased at the same time as "Hawaii-The Big Island Revealed", which might be the best guide/travel/scuba/snorkeling book available

Get this if you want to snorkel the Big Island (I'd recommend Hawaii: the Big Island revealed for everything else). There are more than enough sites listed here to keep you busy for weeks. We just returned from the Big Island and found the book to be very useful to narrow the sites to visit; the maps and gear tips were also great. If you go to Hawaii, don't miss snorkeling the Place of Refuge site!

Book condition was quite good. Good product, good service, good value. Everything was done on time. Thanks for taking care of this well. I would recommend this to others without reservation.

This book comes through on the most important criterion: It gives useful and specific information on a variety of snorkeling sites and snorkel/dive boat operators. It gives maps, driving directions, and advice on the best way to enter the water at a given site. There is a useful chart that classifies the different snorkel sites as to how good the snorkeling is (water clarity, fish variety) and how easy water entry is. I wouldn't want to snorkel the big island without it. .... If you go to the Big Island equipped with this book, and with "Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed" you will be well-prepared!

Snorkel Hawaii The Big Island Second Edition is the current, in print version of this book. From time to time, the Amazon search engine sends people to this older, out of print version. We have tried repeatedly to correct this, but Amazon seems unable to do it. Try clicking on the authors names, and look for Snorkel Hawai The Big Island Second Edition, which is more up to date.

We bought both this book and their other guide, Snorkel Hawaii Maui and Lanai, and snorkeled both islands.We were impressed by the detailed instructions and very clear maps. My husband gets seasick easily, and the tip on that cured him! Kealakekua Bay is lovely. Highly recommended.

I was very disapointed to fine this book had no photo's, just blk/wht line drawings. Most of the sites reviewed are on the west/Kona side of the island, which is fine, if that is where you are going to be staying. Descriptions and directions seems a bit breif and I'm not sure how useful this book would have been. For almost the same price, "Hawaii the Big Island Revealed", covers many of the same snorkeling spots, and alot more, in much more detail.

I love to snorkel, and found this book had the details I wanted. They tell you all you need to know to find spots nobody else mentions.

This was a beautiful book that really refueled my interest for Statistics (which I've been struggling to start learning...even though I know calculus and LOVE mathematics)...but it really caught my eye because it goes into detail about the R statistical programming language.The first few chapters get you going on a specific mindset of how to interpret data, which is VERY important to keep throughout the entire reading of this book.After that groundwork is established, you are taken on a really cool journey of some Excel features (don't freak out...those of you who don't know excel proficiently will be fine in the hands of this book) that you never would've believed were there! You can even use Google Docs to do the same things if you don't have a valid copy of Excel!Finally, R comes into play with all its glory...I would've loved for a deeper dive with this technology, but there are several other books out there in which you can get down and dirty with R (http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Programming-Statistical-Software/dp/1593273843/ and http://www.amazon.com/Cookbook-OReilly-Cookbooks-Paul-Teetor/dp/0596809158/ are my favorites and I own them both on my kindle).I hope that eliminates all your FUD's (Fears, Uncertainties, and Doubts)...go and grab this book RIGHT NOW! You'll be blown away with what you'll be able to do after you read everything here!P.S. It only takes about a week and a half to get through it going at a nice, slow, and comfortable pace...if you're HUNGRY like I was, you can knock it out in about 4 days.

This book provides an excellent, approachable introduction to data analysis. Although most experienced professionals or advanced students will find this text trivial, it serves as a god starting point for those who are completely new to data analysis. The text provides numerous interactive examples using Excel and R, but the examples do not cover these tools in any great depth. If you're looking to learn more about statistics, data analysis and data mining, this book is a good starting point.

Different problems need different methods to be solved properly. This book takes various examples and lets the reader work through the problems. It is actually fun to read this book. Very well explained. Of course, not all the problems worked 100%, but I have not read a book with examples and problems that all work. Especially, some of my R did not work too well. Other than that it is a great book, and a great way to learn about data analysis.

I got the book promptly. It has that softbound textbook feel. but good binding not cheap or ready to fall apart. the intormation in it so far seems interesting and well organized. its in the "head first format" which means there is a lot of nice visual lay out and side notes and some graphics to make understanding the concepts by seeing them when possible. I like that format. It is still pretty clean and gets to the point. but I have only read and used so much of it at this point so I cannot go much farther into the content than that. -- in short I think it is a solid book to get if one wants to better understand how to interpret social science numbers, or other scientific numbers that they are shown in a way that they are wise to various ways that data can be spiked and spiced. how in depth I cannot comment on as I have not fully digested the book. But it is a book that is designed to be both read and used as a topical reference. And it has the "Head First" style keeping things clean but providing insightful commentary, context and graphical illustrations where it might really speed up or enhance understanding of a particular idea or complicated example. it also uses bolding in areas where you can pay attention to the new vocabulary you might want to learn in order to lay the ground work for even more technical education in data analysis. it even has a chapter where it goes over some of the more obscure plug ins for excel that are there for helping a person analyze data. I would basically treat this book as a nice survey of both the human technical sides of data analysis. it also covers things like data collection or effective data presentation, and as I said it refers to several readily available tools like excel for example and how they can be used by someone who wanted to know how to leverage their computer in order tame and extract meaning from data they have been given to interpret. -- I think that its a useful primer that is like a survey course in the subject sans the professor. But how good each section is I cannot comment on as I have only started with the book for a several weeks. but what I did read I found completely intelligible and because I am not a total novice at looking at Data, there were times I could use its nice formatting to skip past explanations I did not need because I already was familiar with them. If I fall in love with the book I may come back and say so and make my stars 5 instead of a 4 but at this point I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wanted a nice primer that went into to a very serviceable level of detail for a primer or survey type information source.

Head First continues to be my series of choice on any subject.I have to agree that sometimes its too basic, but you still have the option of quickly skimming through till you reach topics needing attention.

This book does a thorough job covering the concept of data analysis, touching on both the soft side (requirements gathering, mental models) and the technical side (Excel, R). Like other "Head First" titles, it does it in an entertaining manner that makes reading the book a joy. The material is presented more like an enlightening conversation with an intelligent teacher than a brain dump of facts and theories.

I have long thought that the most effective teaching method is to use a "present a problem" approach and let the reader's curiosity drive the learning.This book uses this approach.It's enjoyable and has helped me understand the basics of data analysis quickly.

What these three books had in common was that they all kept WWII at arms’ length; none of them drew the reader into what the horrors of war were really like opting instead for romance, improbable derring-do, and nothing of substance.So I should have passed this novel up, afraid of another third-rate WWII tale, afraid of another disappointment from First Reads. But no. Like the main character, Anton Starzmann, I took a leap of faith in an uncertain literary world.Folks, this book is magic. I began reading at 5:15 this morning, and finished about thirty minutes ago, Other than the obligatory coffee and bathroom breaks, I have done nothing but read, and marvel. My Inner Critic took a well-deserved nap, with nothing to carp about.First, I found the writing to be elegant and descriptive when required, then spare and taut to augment tension. The dialogue is pitch-perfect, with carefully-crafted voices for the diverse characters, especially the children, which is where many an author fails dismally. Hawker intersperses a fair amount of German throughout, some translated, some not, but her preface explains most if not all the terms used. All right, the village gauleiter was rather recognizable as the usual small-time Nazi thug, but nevertheless well-drawn.Third, I haven’t encountered a character as complex, as haunted, as aware of his failings and weaknesses, and as conflicted over the good as he knew it as a Franciscan friar and the bad of Nazi Germany. Not one to see things in black and white, Anton struggles with grey as he roundly condemns the Nazi program known as T4 and plans ways to resist it and other atrocities, and at the same time feels a moment of compassion for Wehrmacht soldiers who may have been forced to serve because of threats against their families. This is the real deal, an Everyman in times of crisis, forced to decide what he will do, and what he can do in the face of true evil. Not a cliché to be found here.Fourth, the sense, the feeling, of place is beautifully drawn without overwhelming the reader with detail. This small, insignificant German village some 30 kilometers from Stuttgart cannot be mistaken for a small village 30 kilometers from Paris, for example. It’s also a village in wartime, winter and summer, with the weight of daily uncertainties, hunger, fear, and poverty. The war is also very present: planes fly over on their way to bomb cities, but the village just might catch a few bombs dropped in error at night; the always unannounced arrival of the SS; the Wehrmacht popping up—literally—from the ground; and wore, who can be trusted among the fellow villagers, and who would turn you is for saying the wrong words, looking suspicious, or having a bit more to eat than your neighbor? The war is definitely here, and it is most assuredly not romanticized or sanitized. Elisabeth does not overcome her hatred of Nazis and sleep with an officer because he might be one of the good guys. Anton does not perform feats of valor and bravery, meeting every important person in Germany while doing so. And the three Herter children do not go blindly through the war marginally worried or inconvenienced. No, their days are days of terror, laced with random bits of love and kindness to alleviate the horrors visited even on children.Absolutely, unequivocally, and without a single reservation, I recommend this book. It makes so many others set during WWII seem like dreck. Oh, and pay particular attention to the author’s notes at the end.

A quiet, unsung, unlikely hero dedicates his life to others while the world around him is at war. The book will strike you right away with the lovely writing, and you will grab on and hold tight the rest of the read. When a story and its characters stay with you even after you've finished reading, you know you've been moved, and this book delivers.

I did enjoy the book the afterword not so much. I wish the author had not tied her political views in the afterword to this beautiful story. The United States does not parallel Nazi Germany in any way. We do have groups that do believe along those lines but that is because we have freedoms in this country. I personally do not support these groups in any way but these factions do not decide the policies for our nation. It just left a sour note after an enjoyable read with a joyful ending. I wish I had stopped reading at the end of the story.

Her writing is truly lyrical even in the tensest moment. To even try to describe it feels as if I am trivializing some part of it, and yet so many thoughts in this story immediately sear into you as truth and truths that should never be forgotten painted in word pictures indelibly inked onto your mind’s eye. And, while Jews enter the picture at times, it is the plight and desperation of the common German that is laid open for us. That they know they should have acted sooner and that the evil is on their heads; evil that they do not know how to halt. Evil that tears apart their country, their villages, their families. They themselves starve, are made homeless refugees, and have their children ripped from them and murdered.And, yet, through all the darkness, there is the hope of light, of dawn on the horizon. If they can just eek out one more meal, piece one more garment from rags, shelter from distant bomb strikes… If they just can … hope, then there is still hope. And so they keep on one step in front of the other, one neighbor fed, another neighbor clothed, a countryman sheltered, an orphan embraced. Treasures are hidden and depths revealed. One moment at a time, they hang on. If only the light will dawn… Will it ever dawn?This is a story that will leave you drained and spent when you are done, horrified by man’s inhumanity to man, and yet astounded by the depths of courage and love that spur people to sacrifice and redemption. To those who are interested in hydroponic gardening system this book will surely fit for you because it contains a lot of advantages of hydroponics.

I was very curious about this book so I had to buy it and I don't regret it at all! This book offered so much value for the money that I could've paid even more than just 99 cents. This book gives you the basics for building and managing a hydroponic system. There's little fluff in this book which is great. It also has these simple actionable steps that you can take to build your own hydroponic system so basically anyone can do it. Loved it!

It is well written and provides the basics for fellows like me that have no idea on hydroponics. This book helps me about hydroponic gardening. All things about hydroponic gardening are included in this book from starting the garden until it grows a food. This book also included problems and solutions face during gardening. This book also explained to us the difference between hydroponics and traditional farming. It will also tackle here the different types of hydroponics. Amazing tips and tricks are also a part of this book.Hydroponics Guideline about the book is very good. The book is very easy to fall for this work is realized. This book is a lot to be known. Here the author discusses a very good step by step. How can easily read Hydroponics Gardening is like, how it can be self sufficiency, homesteading can be made about what was discussed. Thanks for this book as it expand my knowledge about hydroponics method. I am pretty sure you will get benefited by this book.

I appreciate how the author seems to have spent years to make easy to follow steps of making your own hydroponics. The whole process is well-described in the first section of the book. The benefits of it all convinced me that it can have many amazing benefits not only for the plants but for myself as well.I enjoyed how clear and detailed explanations are. The photos and diagrams are super helpful. The only thing is that I'm new to this type of growing system so some of the materials and the building of hydroponics would be a challenge for me. But I liked how this book gives you options to choose the best hydroponic system that works for you since each system were explained. You can choose from starting at the very simple through to the more complicated.I think I'll start with suggested pre-made nutrient solutions for beginners and eventually possible use the more advanced hydroponic systems as I get good at it. So I'll probably referring to this book a lot. I like that there's also suggested solutions along with the ingredients and procedure in making it as well as the ways to prevent and get rid of the upcoming problems such as pests, fungi and algae.I enjoyed reading this book. This book is for people who want to learn more of hydroponics and want to pursue it.

As indoor gardening gets more popular these days, and with people becoming curious about where their food is coming from, I think more people are choosing to grow their own food. This books really helps alleviate the stress of learning how to grow indoors. I'm my personal opinion hydroponics is the best way to go about it. This books is excellent about deconstructing the process and making it easy to understand. Highly recommend.

As I went deeper into my research of gardening in general, and hydroponics specifically, I found that without some direct suggestions, it really wouldn't all gel together. Andy's book helped to refine my ideas, explore what systems make sense for my situation, and really filled in all the blank spots in my plans. After reading the "Essential Guide", while I'm definately still a beginner, I totally feel well prepared the get started. More than that though, this book got me excited about all the posibilities in store...from building my hydro system, germinating my seeds, to nurturing some beautiful veggies, herbs, and fruits.Andy's guide is written very well, didn't make me feel like 'talked down to', isn't a dummies guide, and isn't so far above my head as to be unreadable. It gave me great insight into how hydroponic systems work, how to maximize my efforts, what things to focus on, and what to watch out for.Of course, while this guide is not the end of all guides, it definately is a must read, along with additional research. I will keep this guide in my grow room as a reference that will be pulled out regularly. Highly recommended.

Hydroponics is a way of growing plants without a natural soil. I am thankful that this would be a great opportunity to learn this kind of ideas, information on how hydroponics will make our life easier. I am going to start my own garden, after reading the guidelines on how to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs in a very easy way of growing, I am very excited to start. Less cost to start and you can have in your own home. I want to have a fresh vegetable serve at my table and effortless to pick up in my own garden without hassle. This book has a great explanation and contains a helpful idea.

This book is one of the greatest books on Hydroponics that I have ever read. It covers from seed to harvest, fertilizing, and everything in between. The book tells you how to get started with a basic system. By reading this book I have gotten my questions answers from this book. I love the fact that hydroponics is made for people with limited space, and allows families to take responsibility for their food. Overall, this book has a lot of basic information and is able to let a reader know many of the key facts of hydroponic gardening. Huge thanks to the author.
