There is a deservedly popular book, "The Undoing Project" by Michael Lewis, that delves, eventually, into great descriptions of two of my former professors (and gives all too short, and ill-informed, shrift of Prof. Ron Howard, who coined the phrase "Decision Analysis".)J knew about my training (in Decision Analysis, at Stanford), and was embarrassed to admit after one of his superb talks I heard when visiting Cornell, that all was totally derivative. I knew that, but J just walked up to say it. He was, by the way, the best speaker I have ever seen.So, derivative?!? Well, yes and no. First, had you really comprehended Khaneman and Tversky's "Prospect Theory" article in Enonometrica, then later read some of Richard Thaler's then-floundering attempts to apply the concepts to how we actually DO, unaided, unchallenged, unaware of cognitive biases actually TEND to make what are at heart irrational choices, you start to really appreciate this book.It is an easy read for anyone with a solid 10-th grade education, though means a lot more to those with more life-experience. J brings out, in superb prose, how, where, and why we so badly mess up. At times, he suggests ways we can correct for this. That he and his co-author so clearly write about our cognitive, seriously important flaws in unaided decision-making is fantastic; he lucidly translates esoteric and then-disjointed ideas deep within "the Ivory Tower" (which it ain't, and certainly isn't "Ivory" if you don't get tenure, and is actually hell to work in if you do).Short of getting a PhD either at Stanford's EES department, or at Duke's b-school with Jim Smith, I cannot recommend this more highly.I started what, as best I know, the first REQUIRED Decision Analysis course in an MBA program is the USA, while a prof at U of Rochester's B-school. Some of us are pretty crazy about how people casually make decisions, and how we, when things get really serious, SHOULD be making decisions. "Decision Traps" has a nice span, in that it shows common mistakes, and at times gives one suggestions as to how to improve things, It is NOT a course into the serious mathematics one needs for the major decisions, yet upon reading it, you will definitely improve your own awareness of the craziness you and others make when coming to "conclusions"/This is a book to read, slowly, and then to re-read every so often. J is that good.

The author provides insights into 10 rules that impact poor decision making in this easy to read but very insightful book on cognitive approaches to decision making and how to overcome our propensity for decision error. Covering elements such as group think, faulty instincts, revisionist history and the need for a comprehensive post-mortem process, the book covers many of the decsion traps that we fall into that will suboptimize the process.The book is getting quite dated - being near 20 years old at this point - but the material in it is still relevant as it is based on human cognition, and that is reasonably slow to change. It is a worthwhile read.

This book discusses ten common errors that people make in decision making, and how to avoid them. When I first saw this title, I was not that interested, because I wanted a book on how to make decisions, not on the errors that people make. After reading it, I find the information to be very useful and practical. This is one of my all time favorite books, I go back to it every so often, and even after reading it a few times I find myself making some of the errors that are discussed in the text. Hopefully I don't make as many as I used to! I know the ideas in this book have been a very substantial help in improving my decision making process, and I am getting better as time goes by. Very highly recommended!!

Long and worded but it's a good book but you really have to work to stay with it. It's was written in 1989 and really hit it right on with what was to come in the 1990's and later.

A must read for anyone serious about understanding the process and psychology of decision making. I read this book two years back from a library. During these two years, I was constantly reminded of concepts like anchoring and bias, which are clearly explained in the book. The book has much more to offer. Therefore, I thought it made sense to buy this book and keep it in my shelf, as a reference !

Great recipes. I have been on several weeks. Can see improvement in my joints already. I had knee surgery 2 years ago and my knee hurt all the time. In just a few weeks I can walk more with less painful. I have no intention of giving up bone broth soon.

Well written but, ingredients are quite pricey. The bone broth recipe is very time consuming. I for one did not care for the taste. I used each recommended ingredient and followed the recipe. Brilliant idea just not for me.

I was so excited to see that Dr. Kellyann included how the bone broth diet works along with the recipes. I've lost 25 pounds and I want to share this with everyone.

I expected there to be a little more inforamtion in the book and more like a mini textbook. It still has a good resource of information. And it has several stories about the writers experinces. Which was very enteratining.It was a well written little book. The seler is selling it at a good price and under what Paladin themselves are selling it for. Some of the Informatiopn is dated since the book was updated around 1997. There should be a new update to this booklet written to give us a current view of what's going on and ways of handling the situation.

A great companion to the Survivalist's Medicine Chest by the same author. If you want to be truly prepared for when SHTF then these two books are a must. I am now enhancing my preparedness with these two books.

This book gives basic sustainability info in urban or rural disasters, when the pharmacy is closed. Sometimes a little ounce of prevention or preparateness can amke all the difference.

This book was OK, but ,it didnt anwser some of the big Q & A that I had for a Prepper. Hopely this will help those also looking for Q & A on medicine????

Very informative

This little book may not have the best reviews but it gave me information about pre surgery anesthesia that I haven't been able to find in any other books . For that alone, I give it high marks. The book is mostly about medicines and not so much about surgical procedures.

Its a great book - I returned the bread machine but kept the book - it works fine for hand made bread - and it gives the recipe in smaller quantity than you see in most cook books. One loaf at a time is all I need and just cutting some 'regular' bread recipes does not always work. This is a good investment for single people or those who like home made bread but just one loaf at a time. When it has no added chemicals it tends to mold so I needed the smaller one loaf at a time version. This book has several that are great - yumm I have not made any for a while and writing this makes me hungry... which one to try next ... last time I made the regular white bread and turned it into cinnamon rolls rather than a loaf. ummm rye bread - or cinnamon rolls or any number of others.. well worth the minimal cost.

My biggest issue with this book is that every recipe calls for gluten flour, whey, and lecithin. None of these items would I consider a kitchen staple. The whey alone was $11 at my HFS (they had only one size/option... b/c "whey" is not the same as whey protein).My second issue with the book is the layout. As another reviewer said, it is double the pages it needed to be (1 lb vs 1.5 lb loaves). But more than that, the book is divided by bread types, and THEN by "transition" and "elite" recipes. Transition has part white flour. Elite is whole grain. This is a terrific idea, but I wish they were all in one place, such as, the first half of the book being transition, the second half elite. It makes thumbing through the book annoying. I really don't care if a recipe falls under "tea bread" or not, I want to know if it's whole grain or not.I still have one more ingredient to buy before I can even try a recipe! If the recipes are fabulous, I will update this review. As it stands, I wish I had not made the purchase.

This is a great book, and I've been using it for about a month to make a lot of different types of whole grain bread in my bread machine. I have a West Bend Hi-Rise Breadmaker which has a 2.5 lb capacity, so the 1 lb and 1.5 lb recipes are a bit small for my machine, but I've had good success with doubling the 1 lb recipe (except for the yeast and salt, for those I use the same as the 1.5 lb recipe otherwise it's too much), and setting the machine to whole wheat (for any of the "Elite" whole grain recipes), light crust, 2 lb.One warning before you start, since this is a health food book, you need to get a lot of the healthy ingredients at a health food store, and expect to make a $100+ shopping trip before starting. I found almost everything at Whole Foods Market, many ingredients I've never seen before, such as liquid lecithin (found near the vitamins), barley malt syrup, and walnut oil. Other ingredients I bought were sesame seeds, caraway seeds, whey protein powder, vital wheat gluten, quinoa, millet, spelt flour, potato flour, oat flour, soy flour, buckwheat flour, rye flour, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dates, raisins, walnuts, pecans, sesame oil, molasses, wheat germ, wheat berries, oat bran, wheat bran, poppy seeds, spices like dill, and of course whole wheat flour. I didn't buy the powdered egg substitute as it seemed to be mostly soy flour, and I know that flaxseed meal is a good powdered egg substitute and I had that already. Many of these items are expensive but once you stock up, you can make all kinds of really good tasty healthy bread without having to run back to the store a lot. Lately I only keep running out of the whole wheat flour and that's available at any grocery store.The last two sandwich type breads I made were Dill Rye Bread and Quinoa and Sesame Seed Bread, and those were excellent. There are a lot of others like this I plan to try. The Health Nut Bread was good too, with sunflower seeds, also good for sandwiches. I do warn about the recipes that look like sweet breads, such as Fruit and Bran Muffin Bread and Whole Grain Banana Date-Nut Bread. I made both of those and they came out ok, but they are NOT sweet breads like your typical muffin or banana bread; they taste like regular whole wheat bread with a slight hint of fruit; fine as toast with breakfast but not like a dessert. When I want sweet bread or muffins I'll make a regular recipe in the oven with baking powder/soda instead of a whole wheat yeast bread (or use a non-whole-wheat sweet bread recipe in the machine from another book), but of course that's not as healthy.A note for the gluten haters: I don't understand the latest "gluten-free" craze at all... it seems like half the country all of a sudden came up with a new allergy and phobia to a natural part of wheat (no, it's not some sort of poison), and now everything from fruit to furniture needs to be labeled "gluten free" or people won't buy it. If you believe this nonsense or actually do have a real medical issue with gluten, then look for a gluten-free cookbook instead of this one. For the rest of us, just remember that gluten is what makes dough stick together and rise properly as bread, and since whole wheat flour has much less gluten than white flour, you have to add a tablespoon or so of gluten flour to make up for the difference, otherwise the bread will not rise and it will be dry and dense.

This was written for the breadman brand bread machines back when Moses was a pup. Having said that, the recipes are solid, simple and tasty. He starts out with the standard [especially back then] white bread stuff, proceeds to the half & half recipes and then transitions to completely whole wheat/whole grain recipes. He uses lecithin and whole wheat instead of bread flour, so it's old-fashioned in that sense, but it's easy to get lecithin here on amazon, it's cheap and it does wonderful things for bread, so that's no biggie [commercial bakeries and serious bakers use it frequently]. Also there is no filler - no recipes for spreads, sides or other junk that doesn't have anything to do with bread. Every recipe has options laid out for what size loaf you want to make in a simple to read and easy to follow grid format. This is a durable [hardback], simple, complete, basic primer on healthy bread from a bread machine. I highly recommend this as a first book with any bread machine or as a fun addition to any experienced bakers bookshelf.

Books with healthy bread machine recipes can be hard to find. . . this is one of the best! There are two "categories" of recipes: the "transitional" recipes still contain some ingredients best avoided; the other recipes are the best nutritionally.The recipes are listed for both 1 and 1 1/2 lb loaves, and are easy to make. The onion-thyme bread is one of my favorites! There is also a recipe for hand-twisted, whole wheat pretzels that is really good too.If you're concerned about the types of foods you put in your body, and love warm, fresh breads of all types, get this book!

This bread machine cookbook is informative, easy to follow and well written. The recipes can be used with any breadmachine. Some of the ingredients are a bit involved but well worth the time to put together. I've had great success with any of the breads made. They have a beautiful rise, texture and taste. My personal favorite is the caraway rye bread. The only critique to this cookbook is the use of gluten, gluten, gluten. It would have been a five star if it included gluten free recipes.

Private Empire provides a very interesting view behind the scene of the world's biggest oil company across the decades. It shows the good, the bad and the ugly of the firm and it's leaders against the backdrop of historical events in the (oil) world. Exxon provided and provides great wealth for shareholders, employees and host countries, but also was and partly is silent where host countries commit atrocities, don't respect human rights or misuse the wealth Exxon helps them to extract from oil. The understandable reasoning is that this is not the job of a company. Still, this leads to some bitter outcomes. The book provides for fascinating reading. The only thing missing is a deeper understanding of the motivations of the key players, the CEO's of Exxon. They come off as rather one-dimensional, which may well be true and certainly results from describing the actions of the players through the eyes of an independent observer, but some colour provided by the CEO's would have made the book even more interesting. Still, this is a great book.

I expected this book to be a left-wing assault on one of the best run, profitable companies in America. Boy was I wrong! I found Coll to have been stuck to his aim to present ExxonMobil as a powerful "Empire" whose influence cannot be ignored in American society and government. I found Coll to be unbiased, fair, and quite knowledgeable on a subject that he--and certainly I--was not here-to-fore was not well-informed. Despite climate concerns most Americans share, Coll did an excellent job showing how vital the major oil companies like ExxonMobil are to meeting the energy demands of our world, as we collective endeavor to find cleaner ways to meet the demands. I feel I have a much more balanced picture of the complex and inter-related world of oil and natural gas. Full disclosure: I read the book to understand the company my Chemical Engineer son now works for and speaks so glowingly about. Coll was amazingly accurate in describing the"OIMS" (Operational Integrity Management Systems) culture of post-vales ExxonMobil. He was spot on, too, in the engineering excellence, cost-conscious, highly regimented and disciplined EOM workplace. "Sanctity of contracts," as he frequently noted, is part of the DNA of the company. A must read for those who want a balanced picture of this American Icon company.

A great book on several different levels. An in-depth look at a huge energy company that is well-written, interesting, and seems to be a fairly objective narrative about a company that the average person knows little about. The book starts with the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989, so if you are looking for a complete company history, you will have to look elsewhere, but there are several avenues for that information if you are so inclined. I read books on history, economics, business and the like constantly, as this is an area of great interest for me, so I was already well-versed in the company's earlier history. Some have criticized the book as being too detailed, but I didn't get that feeling, to me it was simply a well-researched book with a lot of depth. You really get a good look at the current CEO, Rex Tillerson, and the former CEO, Lee (Iron Ass) Raymond, and by gaining a better understanding of them, you also get a better idea of how and why ExxonMobil has evolved into the company it is today. This is also a great look at the oil industry in general, since ExxonMobil is an integrated super-major oil company, meaning that it encompasses both upstream (oil exploration and production) and downstream (refining, marketing, and retail) components, along with a huge chemicals division. Coll does an excellent job of putting a human face on what at first glance would seem to be just another huge, shadowy corporation. There is a lot of information here, but it is presented in an interesting and highly readable format, you don't feel like you are being force-fed dry factoids. This is the second book I've read by Steve Coll, "The Bin Ladens" was also very good, it was an interesting read, especially about the family business. Anyway, I truly enjoyed Private Empire, and I recommend it highly.

Nothing new about chelation therapy here, not very thourough. This is not the best book if someone is looking to actually DO chelation and wants to learn about it. So far Andy Cutlers book seems to have a lot of information and makes sense.

The Chelation Controversy: How to Safely Detoxify Your Body is sort of OK. Some recommendations may be helpful, and some are not. I have read a half dozen books on detoxification before I finally found the most crucial aspect that none included. I will come to this shortly. But first it is important to beware that many things recommended for detoxing may themselves be harmful. This can include the chelators, DMPS and DMSA, ozone, even numerous supplements if they are not accurately tested beforehand.The above applies whether the toxic exposure was mercury or other heavy metal, mold, pesticide, formaldehyde, drugs or other .The most crucial and missing aspect is that quite often a chronic porphyria has been permanently induced by the toxic exposure. This then is what often makes the person chronically sick and very “allergic” to foods and environmental chemicals. I put allergic in quotes because the adverse reactions to foods and env. chemicals may really be porphyric, not allergic, reactions. After porphyria is induced, people can become even more intolerant of drugs and even vitamins. There is only one book then to get and read for immediate help. This is the book written by Dr. Steven Rochlitz, titled, PORPHYRIA: The Ultimate Cause Of Common, Chronic And Environmental Illnesses. With Breakthrough In Diet, Supplements And Energy Balancing. There is even an awesome, recent, free interview/lecture on the testimonials page.Save your health as I did after reading Rochlitz’s remarkable book. It was so helpful. If you are looking for an acceptably scientific book/resource on metal chelation - do not bother with this book. This is a generic regurgitation of folklore beliefs about postulated curative effects of chelation. To set it straight - detox/chelation therapies might or might not be beneficial. What this book fails to delivery is the sound foundation of such advice. Hence it can even be potentially damaging as bad advice can be extremely dangerous (e.g. a wrong protocol for ALA-based metal chelation).This book is just a generic b/s which you see in most other sources on candida, adrenal insufficiency, etc, i.e. -feel low on energy? -cannot sleep? You must be having XXX. In this particular book case, XXX is some covert poisoning.As an alternative, grab a hair metal and a provoked urine metal tests from a reputable lab (such as Doctor's Data e.g.) and then visit a CAREFULLY selected medical practitioner who is good enough to understand what covert chronic low-level metal poisoning can do to your body/brain.Or, if you want to understand it for yourself, once you have the culprit metals, start with a good textbook on the subject such as "Handbook on the Toxicology of Metals". Alternatively if Hg is above the norm try the two books published by Andy Cutler. In fact try them regardless as the therapies and the logic Andy discusses applies to many other heavy metals (e.g. lead) besides mercury the chelation agents of his choice have affinity with.Summary: I've borrowed the entire collection from the interlibrary service of our university in the search of supplementary literature on chelation. Probably not your first book on chelation therapy. More like second stage information. This stuff is a life saver.

It is a small easy to read book with the most important facts on chelation summarized. Great for quick reference. It furnishes me with enough information in order to make an informed desicion on the best method of chelation.

The book is easy to understand, explanations are given for medical or scientific words. However, I think chelation is a crock. I am studying consumer health and just about everything in this book is opposite what is in my health textbook (Consumer Health: A Guide to Intelligent Decisions).

It was good to read the three stories in one book. All very very good Authors. If you want just some good easy reading and enjoyable, this is your book.

I really wanted to read this book for Kate Pearce's "The Cowboy Lassoes A Bride." However, I really enjoyed reading Diane Palmer's story too."The Rancher's Wedding"- I was already laughing after the first couple of pages. Cassie was unknowingly the victim of a prank. She showed up at JL's ranch to protest, but she was in for a surprise. Cassie and JL hit a lot of bumps during their time together, and there were plenty of misunderstandings. Cassie is hiding, and her story is outed at the worst time. I highly recommend reading this book for yourself!"The Cowboy Lassoes A Bride"- This definitely is not a standalone, and you need to read the other books in the series first! This is the story of Sam, HW, and their wedding! I love the Morgans, and this boook was a great addition! There ended up being so many obstacles that came up before their wedding, including a missing bride!I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

I love Kate Pearce. In reading other collections she has been a part of I have found other authors to love. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the chance at an ARC of this collection when I saw she was involved. I’ve not had luck with Diana Palmer in the past, but I was all for giving her another go. Unfortunately, things did not go as I had hoped with this one.The stories in the book are in the order of the author’s credits on the cover, but that’s not how I’m going to review them. I’m not a fan of negativity, especially when it comes to book reviews. We all have different tastes and opinions. I decided I’m going to list my opinions below with Kate Pearce’s story first, so you can stop after that if you don’t want any less than stellar thoughts on the other two stories. Here we go…The Cowboy Lassos a Brideby Kate PearceAs usual, Kate Pearce does not disappoint. This story ties into her Morgan Ranch series and the love, chemistry, and friendships found in those full-length novels are also present in this short story. I love the Morgans, I love their friends, and I love the citizens of Morgantown. It’s hard for me to judge for sure since I have read this series, but I don’t believe you have to read the other books in the series to enjoy this story. They are all definitely worth the read though. This is the story of HW and Sam, who are featured in The Bad Boy Cowboy, getting engaged and married. It’s loaded with their usual spats and tons of chemistry and love to go along with those disagreements. I cannot get enough of this author. ~5 starsThe Rancher’s Weddingby Diana PalmerI’ll start this one off with facts instead of opinion. There are some major continuity issues with this story. The characters contradicted themselves numerous times. How can Cassie’s dad think she’s allergic to cats from one incident in her past, and then a few paragraphs later she states she’s had cats her whole life? Her dog situation became a confusing mess. The story was also very repetitive, Cassie and her father going over and over why they are in Colorado and the evil things that were done to them. Luckily, there was actual chemistry between Cassie and JL. That alone kept me reading.I’m sure there’s a market for the type of characters that are in this book, but we’re at the opinion portion of my review now. The media is bashed, journalists are disparaged, the term “bleeding-heart liberals” is actually used, waitresses are looked at as less than. In fact, Cassie and her father hide the fact that Cassie is good at chess because JL might be suspicious of a chess playing waitress. Holy cow! I believe my blood pressure actually shot up a couple times while reading this story. After my other experiences with this author’s books, it really clear that she is just not an author I can enjoy. ~1.5 starsWind River Weddingby Lindsay McKennaQuite honestly, I skimmed a huge portion of this story. It was a whole heck of a lot of telling and no showing. Very early on, it was obvious this story is meant as a prequel to some other works by this author. I looked it up after and I’d say if you’ve read and enjoyed her Wind River Valley series, you may enjoy this. I’m pretty sure it’s a sort of origin story of the matriarch and patriarch of a major family in that series. But it is NOT a good introduction to the series. I felt like I would have enjoyed it a little more if I already knew some of these characters. There was no chemistry and the dialogue was stilted because the characters were telling each other things they already knew. Maud describing the layout of the land to Steve, who grew up on the land. Steve telling Maud who was standing up in their wedding like she doesn’t know her own best friend. I’m sure this was meant to convey this information to the reader, but it’s done in an odd way that really bogs the story down.I will admit that I feel terrible judging this author on this story alone. Like I said, if you’re a fan of this series you may love this story. It doesn’t work for a compilation book that is, often, introducing a writer to potential new readers of their other stories. I may give her another chance if I come across something that is either a true book 1 of a series or a true standalone. Diane Palmer's contribution, The Rancher's Wedding is a tale of overcoming circumstances and taking another chance. Cassie Reed moved to Benton, Colorado to start a new life with her father, after a false accusation against him, not only destroyed his career, but drove his wife to commit suicide. She left a lucrative job as a screen writer to accompany him, as he tries to go on. Now working as a waitress, she manages to be content with greatly reduced circumstances. Wealthy J.L. Denton isn't interested in romance after his last engagement. J.L.'s cousin Cary was responsible for their meeting, by playing a nasty practical joke on Cassie. They seemed worlds apart but as they learned more about each other, they grew close, and Cary did not like that. His solution was create more problems and his mischief led to the temporary break up of the pair....but love wins out in the end. This tale has humor, sweetness, a skunk in the wood pile (Cary), wonderful townsfolk and sweet family interaction. A villain, the accusing liar and her comeuppance. A fun and interesting read. Lindsay McKenna's contribution is a sweet tale of love from meeting through the marriage of Maud and Steve Whitcomb. The pair knew from the first glance, they were meant to be, even as they knew they both had things to accomplish and managed to do both. Sweet with humor. Kate Pearce's The Cowboy Lassoes A Bride is set on the Morgan Ranch. This wonderful series draws you in and keeps you in. The ranch is a rehabilitation ranch for vets and animals and the characters have character. H.W. finally finds the one, but is afraid she will leave like his mother did. Sam's scars are not only outside...but inside too. This installment is about their wedding and getting them to the altar is hard work for them all. Sweet and funny and not to be missed. I requested and received A NetGalley ARC much to my delight.
